Lady Hornets Stuns UAPB on Late Rally in Overtime, 58-56

Pine Bluff, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions dropped a heartbreaking loss to Alabama State Lady Hornets, 58-56 in overtime Saturday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

Rallying from a 5-point fourth quarter deficit with less than two minutes in the game, the Lady Lions (3-6, 0-2 SWAC) tied the game at 50-50, with a free throw in the final seconds by Shawntayla Harris to force the game into overtime.

UAPB jumped out to a fast start in overtime, racing out to a five-point lead, 56-51 off a basket by senior Kyle Richardson.  Alabama St. (3-11, 2-1 SWAC) went on a 7-0 run in the final two minutes of the game to take a stunning victory over the Lady Lions.


  • Junior Taylor Noe’ll lead the Lady Lions with 11 points and five boards.
  • Junior guard Kyeonia Harris chipped in 10 points.  This is the third consecutive game with Harris scoring in double figures.
  • Senior preseason all-conference, Shawntayla Harris contribute nine points but had a game-high with six blocks.
  • There were eight lead changes in the game for both teams.
  • The Lady Lions outscored the Lady Hornets bench 31-21
  • Shmya Ward led the Lady Hornets with 15 points, followed by Anyana Emmanuel with 11 points.

UAPB will be back in action at home Monday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena Jan. 14, at 5:30 P.M. against Alabama A&M in Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night.  All faculty and staff get in for $5.00 with a university ID.
