Pine Bluff, AR- The Judges of the Eleventh West Judicial Circuit have issued a joint letter to the Jefferson County Quorum Court and County Judge Gerald Robinson, highlighting the severe impact of the ongoing budget impasse on the county’s judicial system and community.

While remaining impartial of the underlying disputes, the judges detailed how the lack of a budget has paralyzed essential court operations, including the inability to process criminal filings, assemble juries, or provide courtroom security. The judges emphasized the devastating effects on key programs such as the Juvenile Drug Court, Teen Court, and mentoring initiatives that have been instrumental in reducing juvenile crime.

“The Jefferson County budget impasse is having devastating consequences, “the judges wrote. “Without resolution, we cannot conduct trials, support recovery programs, or provide timely decisions in sensitive cases like child custody and adoptions. These delays deny justice and erode trust in the system.” The judges called on county leaders to recognize the far-reaching implications of inaction, urging swift resolution to restore vital services and ensure the safety and well-being of the county’s residents.

The letter was signed by Drug Court Coordinator Crystal Gonder for Circuit Judge Alex Guynn.
