Jefferson County Judge Gerald Robinson confirmed Friday that there are more than 50 homes in Jefferson County that have been quarantined as a result of the COVID-19 virus.

Appearing on the Oldies 101.3 morning show with Greg Horne and Will Jenkins, Robinson said the action was taken by the State Health Department and involves people who have displayed symptoms of the disease.

Later Friday, Brian Thomas, CEO of Jefferson Hospital said the hospital has treated 16 patients and two of them are in isolation. Eight of the 16 were hospital employees.

Robinson said the location of the houses that have been quarantined have been passed along to dispatches with MECA (Metropolitan Emergency Communications Association) so that if a call is received from one of those locations, law enforcement officers, firefighters or medical personnel responding to the location can take proper precautions.

Because of patient privacy laws, the exact location of the houses can not be released but most are believed to be inside the Pine Bluff City Limits.
