Pine Bluff will soon host the Jefferson County Sports Hall of Fame at the Bill Carr Museum hosted inside of the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Library.
At a press conference Wednesday Jefferson County Sports Hall of Fame Chairman Jeff Gross joined Mayor Shirley Washington, the Director of the Pine Bluff Library Ricky Williams, and other committee members to introduce the first six selections for the new Hall of Fame.
Gross spoke with Deltaplex News to share how the Hall of Fame came about.
There are six initial inductees to the Jefferson County Sports Hall of Fame. The initial six include NFL Hall of Fame members Don Hutson and Willie Roaf, former NFL player and UAPB head coach Monte Coleman, former Major League Baseball greats Torii Hunter and Rickey Henderson, and Pine Bluff legend Basil Shabazz.
Gross said that he and his committee agree that they are the six best to ever come out of Pine Bluff.
He also spoke about what goes into considering an athlete to be a member of the Hall of Fame.
12 additional members are set to be announced in January. The next 12 will be considered as Jefferson County Legends.
