UPDATE 1:50 P.M. According to Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods, Jr. the person detained after Sunday morning’s shooting has not been charged with any crimes at this time.
A person who has not been named was detained at the scene and was interviewed following the shooting. The Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office was also consulted and it has been determined that no charges are being filed at this time.
The investigation is continuing and the victim’s body will be sent to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy. Investigators and the Prosecutor could decide to file charges if further investigating provides more information moving forward.
Further details about the shooting have not been provided to news media at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY:
On January 19, 2025, at approximately 3:11 am dispatchers from the Metropolitan Emergency Communication Association (MECA) received a 911 call from a resident on Billingsley Road regarding a suspected prowler at their neighbor’s residence.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Deputies were dispatched to this area to investigate. MECA received a subsequent phone call from another resident on Billingsley Road substantially stating that the suspected prowler had been shot.
An Officer from the Redfield Police Department arrived at the scene prior to JCSO Deputies and took a suspect into custody. Also at the scene was one white male who was deceased. There are no further suspects being considered at this time and the scene is secured.
Investigators from the JCSO Criminal Investigation Division have been called to the scene and are investigating. This is an ongoing investigation, and further information will be released when possible.
