Jefferson County Election Commissioner Ted Davis has resigned from the Jefferson County Election Commission.

Jefferson County Election Commissioner Ted Davis has resigned from the Jefferson County Election Commission, citing “corruption, racism, hostility, and blatantly self-serving agendas” as his reasoning.

Additionally, Davis stated that the environment within the commission is “toxic, dangerously threatening, and intimidating.”

Davis’ resignation comes as the commission is preparing for the March 3 primary, judicial, and school elections.

Davis, a Democrat, has also filed a criminal complaint with the Jefferson County prosecuting attorney stating that Commissioner Stu Soffer, a Republican, stood up and shouted at Davis, telling him to “go outside to settle this” following an argument that broke out at a meeting in October.

Davis states that he did not respond to Soffer. Davis also alleges that Soffer followed him outside following the conclusion of the meeting, and issues threats while gesturing in a threatening manner.

Prosecuting Attorney Kyle Hunter has recused himself from the matter, citing his representation of the Election Commission as a whole. A special prosecutor, Jason Barrett of Maumelle, was chosen by the office of the prosecutor coordinator in Little Rock following Hunter’s recusal, but Barrett has not announced a decision as to whether he will prosecute the case.
