The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is asking for assistance in searching for a person of interest in an on-going investigation, and according to Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr., that person is one of three who allegedly tried to break into the adult detention center earlier this week.

Woods said that the unidentified person used a sledgehammer on the north side of the jail to try and knock a hole in a wall and possibly insert contraband into the building.

Previous attempts to insert contraband into the jail have occurred on the south side of the building on 3rd Avenue and Woods said the facility has added new fencing on that side, as well as moved the surveillance tower into a position to provide additional security.

He said the north side, on Second Avenue, is the main entrance to the jail and is also where many jail employees park. The latest attempt occurred at about 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The male in the video was last seen driving a white passenger car, a press release said.
