Ja Rule thinks Kanye West‘s rants and actions go beyond surface level. In an interview with Complex, he talks about the media’s portrayal of Ye, which he believes is mainly done for clicks and fails to consider his mental health.

While he admits he doesn’t always see eye to eye with Ye, Ja thinks that “people are missing the bigger picture,” which is that Ye “does have a mental illness.”

“I have to look at some of these outlets and say, shame on you for propping him up and putting the camera in front of his face when you know what he’s going to say,” he says. “They want clicks. They want to have Kanye have these episodes,” he continues before asking, “Where’s the support base? Where are his friends? Where are the people who benefited from Kanye’s greatness the most? Where are the people in his corner, keeping him from doing interviews and those sorts of things?”

Despite the perception, Ja Rule doesn’t think Kanye is as “crazy as everyone likes to think.” He actually believes the rapper may make use of the backlash following his antisemitic comments “to show how Black people, how easily they can be thrown away, or how easy the power can be taken away.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Ja shared his thoughts on how Irv Gotti should have handled his tension with Ashanti. To recap, Ja was sitting alongside the Murder Inc. CEO as he told Drink Champs about his alleged relationship with the singer.

“In a perfect world, I would get them in a room together,” Ja said. “Let’s not do all of this internet back and forth.”
