The words of Sheli Milner, whose brother was shot to death in 2005. His convicted murderer was Gilbert Postel, who was executed on Thursday at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester.

Today, a federal judge has cleared the way for as many as 28 executions in the Sooner state over the next two years. A legal challenge had been made about one part of the cocktail used for executions. A six-day trial was held earlier this with Judge Steven Friot ruling today that Midazolam does not cause pain to the condemned and thus does not constitute cruel and unusual punishment.

That drug, which is also used here in Arkansas is was tied to a botched execution in Oklahoma in 2014.

Back in 2017, Arkansas conducted 8 executions in 11 days due to the fast approaching expiration date of the drug. One of those men, Ledell Lee, has had his case examined over the last year with new DNA testing done, which showed another man’s genetic material on the murder weapon. The last person executed in the state was Pine Bluff’s Kenneth Williams in 2017. He was convicted of killing four people in Arkansas and Missouri, crimes that he later apologized for.

He was originally convicted of killing a University of Arkansas student after abducting Nikki Hurd and her boyfriend in a Pine Bluff parking lot. His killing spree continued in ’99 after he escaped from prison.
