Iggy Pop has teamed up with jazz legend Dr. Lonnie Smith to record a cover of the Donovan song “Sunshine Superman.”

The recording features the Godfather of Punk singing smoothly over Smith’s funky organ, as the pair reinterpret the psychedelic folk standard. You can download it now via digital outlets.

“I was playing with my trio at Arts Garage in Delray Beach in Florida,” Smith explains. “Iggy would come by and say he wanted to play with me. I let him play slaparoo [percussion] and he loved it. He enjoyed playing with us. We thought about recording a few songs, so we went in with my trio backing us up, and it worked.”

The “Sunshine Superman” cover will appear on Smith’s upcoming album Breathe, due out March 26.

Pop released his latest album, Free, in 2019.
