A Hot Springs man was killed in the early morning hours Tuesday when he was struck by a vehicle while walking on a sidewalk.
According to a preliminary report, Donald Ray Thompson, 64, was walking north on the sidewalk on Central Avenue near Oaklawn Ave., when he was hit by a Mack Truck that had turned out of a parking lot south onto Central Avenue. As the truck was entering the roadway, the front bumper hit Thompson and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident was reported at 1:09 a.m. and the death was the 317th so far this year on the state’s highways.
