Ne-Yo is reflecting on how far he’s come in his life and career in an upcoming documentary titled In My Words. He released the trailer for the project, which finds him discussing his early desire to pursue music, on Thursday.
“I realized that it was going to be music for me at 9 years old,” he says in the 30-second clip. “From my first album debuting at #1 to winning my first Grammy, performing at the White House multiple times, it took a good 10 years for me to, like, sit still long enough to realize what we had actually done. This is a dream come true. This is what I wanted since I was 9 years old.”
According to the teaser’s description, In My Words will also find Ne-Yo discussing the making of his debut album, “balancing his career with family” and “reflecting on the challenges of 2020.” Intimate interviews and behind-the-scenes footage will be included to help tell the singer’s story.
“Hear it from the source,” Ne-Yo writes while promoting the documentary. In My Words, named after his debut album, airs February 23 on YouTube.
