An investigation is underway following a plane crash near 8126 Alexander Road in Lincoln County Wednesday evening. Deltaplex News was on scene as the pilot was safely removed from the downed plane and transported to Jefferson Regional for treatment.
According to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office a phone call was received at approximately 7:02 pm the Metropolitan Emergency Communications Association (MECA) received a phone call from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) advising that a plane, was scheduled to land at the Grider Field Airport in Pine Bluff around 5 p.m., and they had not heard from the pilot.
At approximately 7:09 pm MECA received a phone call from a person stating he was the pilot of the plane and had crashed. Jefferson and Lincoln County Deputies, Arkansas State Police, as well as other first responders and Grider Field Airport personnel began a search for the pilot.
The plane and pilot were eventually located in Lincoln County.
Grider Field Airport Manager Doug Hale spoke with Deltaplex News Thursday morning to share how he found out about the crash.
Hale gave an update on the condition of the pilot.
The FAA was on scene at Grider Field Airport Thursday morning to begin their investigation into why the crash happened.
At the time of this interview Hale told Deltaplex News that it is still unknown what caused the plane to crash, and that the airport still had not been informed of the make and model of the aircraft that went down.
Additionally, the pilot has not been named at this time.
