Grant County will be applying for a grant to create a walking trail in Cox Creek State Park.

According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, Grant County Judge Randy Pruitt said the application is the latest in a series of actions that the county has taken to improve the park.

At a meeting of the Grant County Quorum Court last month, Pruitt said the county had been awarded a $15,000 grant to put in a dump site at the park. That grant came with a requirement that the county match the amount of the grant and Pruitt said that match did not necessarily have to be in cash.

He said the county was looking at the idea of using $15,000 worth of labor to clear the land, put in culverts and that sort of thing.

“I’m hoping to pay very little in cash for the project,” Pruitt said to the newspaper.
