The Grant County Quorum Court recently approved an ordinance establishing minimum specifications for roads in the county.

According to the Sheridan Headlight Newspaper, Grant County Judge Randy Pruitt said “the problem that we encounter when we take possession of a road prior to  getting really being tried out, as soon as we take possession of it, construction of houses in developments start out and then you see big trucks and other equipment finally start giving the road a true testing. Any then we are stuck with fixing the road.”

Included in the specifications is a requirement the owner/contractor must provide the county with a two-year maintenance bond worth $40 per foot prior to the beginning of construction. Pruitt said the bond can be returned to the owner after two years.

The ordinance also provides for a 50-foot right of way and 5-foot easement on both sides of the road and prior to the beginning of construction, the owner/contractor must meet with the county judge to review plans to ensure that all specification are met.
