A new solid waste facility for Grant County is now open, according to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper.
The new public facility, located at 309 Gazke Drive in Sheridan replaces the former facility on South Rose Street that has been deactivated. It had been in operation since 1988.
According to the newspaper, the move was motivated by the Kickstart Sheridan Infrastructure Committee because the former facility was near the Sheridan Parks and Recreation Center and numerous ballfields.
The new facility covers four acres, an increase from the original one acre which required significant land clearing and removal of debris.
The new facility also has a weight scale accommodating truck beds, trailers, dump trucks and more and will benefit the city of Sheridan since the price per load can be better determined.
The newspaper said recycling services include glass, paper, metal, aluminum cans, cardboard, electronics and up to four tires per person per month. Those services are free of charge.
