Grant County Middle School Student Wins 2021 State Spelling Bee

Avery Grayson Williams from Sheridan Middle School in Grant County won the 2021 Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas State Spelling Bee. Williams was amongst 47 other students that competed across the state at the state’s capital. The event was held on Saturday, March 13th at the Arkansas 4-H Center in Little Rock.

According to The Sheridan Headlight, Sheridan schools superintendent Jerrod Williams said, “The Yellowjacket Nation is extremely proud of Avery. He is an excellent student who consistently works hard to achieve his goals. ”

Approximately 42,243 students from 294 schools in 57 counties across the state competed in local and county contests that led up to the State Spelling Bee contest. Williams will be headed to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the largest and longest-running educational program in the country. The purpose of this National Spelling Bee is to help students improve their spelling, increase vocabularies, learn new concepts, and develop the correct English usage that will help students as they grow older.
