The Grant County library will be moving to a larger space after the county bought the former U.S. Bank building downtown.
According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, the purchase was approved during a special Quorum Court meeting in July, paying $600,000 for the building at Oak and Center Streets.
The newspaper reported that renovations will be necessary and according to library director Jessica Reeves, the move will triple the library’s square footage, providing space for popular programs like Summer Reading.
Those renovations are expected to take less than two years and the library is planning fundraisers to cover the renovation costs. A nonprofit group, Friends of the Library has been formed with membership fees ranging from $5 for students and seniors to $100 for lifetime memberships.
