LITTLE ROCK — Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders declared a state of emergency in Arkansas in anticipation of severe winter weather expected to hit the state on Tuesday.

Sanders said the declaration is necessary to address the challenges posed by the impending storm.

“Adverse circumstances may come to bear upon citizens and properties in Arkansas, as a result of the severe weather,” the declaration stated.

The declaration allows commercial vehicles transporting heavy equipment, oversized loads, transformers, and other essential hardware to bypass certain regulations to restore utility services swiftly.

It also applies to commercial carriers delivering essential goods such as groceries, pharmacy items, medical equipment, and fuel.

Emergency response vehicles, including utility vehicles and electric utility supply trucks, are authorized to bypass Arkansas Department of Transportation weigh station facilities through February 24, 2025.

However, this authorization does not extend to vehicles requiring permits or those exceeding size and weight restrictions.

The State of Emergency will remain in effect until February 24, 2025, unless amended or extended by further orders.
