Golden Lions Improve In Third Scrimmage

Pine Bluff, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football team used Saturday morning’s practice for its third scrimmage of the spring, and Head Coach Cedric Thomas said the scrimmage is great to see which players are starting to separate themselves.

“We base our evaluations on how they perform, “Thomas said. “Some guys took a step forward today, and they’re going to earn the right to play more.”
Thomas also said that age and previous playing experience won’t factor into the team’s decision-making process.

“We’re going to play the best players, Thomas said.  “I don’t care if it’s a fifth-year senior or a true freshman. I feel like we’re headed in the right direction. Last year I probably couldn’t say the same.  We’re out here working, going hard every day.  We’ve got a high-energy team and younger guys who want to get better every day.  When you’ve got a team like that, you can do big things.”

Both Shannon Patrick and Skyler Perry took significant number of snaps during the scrimmage and making solid plays early on including touchdown passes.
The Golden Lions will take Sunday off from practice but will be back at Simmons Bank Field Monday evening to prepare for the Black and Gold scrimmage Saturday, April 13 at noon. The day begins with the Alumni Flag Football Game at 11 a.m. at Simmons Bank Stadium prior to the final practice of the spring for UAPB football. The day will conclude with UAPB Baseball hosting Southern at 2 p.m.

UAPB Football opens the 2019 season on Saturday, August 31 at TCU.
