Golden Lions Come Up Short In Road Loss To Grambling St.
GRAMBLING, Louisiana — The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions fell 31-21 to Grambling on the road Saturday afternoon.
Mekhi Hagens led UAPB’s passing attack with 230 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns and one interception. The signal caller also added one touchdown on the ground.
Za’Marion Webber paced the Golden Lions rushing attack by accumulating 93 yards over the course of the game, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. BJ Curry also added 33 yards on the ground.
JaVonnie Gibson reeled in six catches for 84 yards. Kristian Gammage got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in five balls for 54 yards and one touchdown.
Johness Davis showed out for the UAPB defense, recording one recovered fumble. UAPB’s defense held up against Grambling’s offense, allowing 310 total yards.
UAPB took care of business in the red zone, scoring three times on three trips inside Grambling’s 20-yard line, with all of those scores being touchdowns.
How It Happened
After falling behind 7-0, UAPB responded with a touchdown with 4:34 left in the first quarter to tie it at 7-7.Grambling then scored to take a 17-7 lead before the Golden Lions put a touchdown on the board to narrow the gap and make it a 17-14 game.
Grambling scored to increase their lead to 24-14 before UAPB responded with 14:05 left in the fourth quarter and narrowed the advantage to 24-21. UAPB went scoreless the rest of the game while Grambling added seven points to finish off the scoring.
