Crime statistics for the City of Pine Bluff are due to be released this week and, whatever they are, Interim Police Chief Lloyd Franklin Sr. said they are not where he wants them to be.

Franklin appeared on the Oldies 101.3 morning show and was asked the best way for the department to serve the public with its limited resources.

Franklin, who has been the Interim Chief for two weeks, said a conversation with Mayor Shirley Washington was one of the reasons he took the job, but there were “other things in my thought process.”

Franklin also confirmed rumors circulating on social media and other places that Prosecuting Attorney Kyle Hunter has been asked to conduct an investigation into allegations that police cars that were supposed to be auctioned off were sold.

He said no one has lost their job but one officer has left the department.
