A two-vehicle accident on Highway 425 in rural Drew County Wednesday resulted in the death of a Fountain Hill man.
According to a preliminary report, Billy J. Yates, 66, was southbound when the 2008 Ford F-150 he was driving crossed the center line and into the path of a 2022 freightliner tractor-trailer that was northbound.
The driver of the tractor-trailer swerved into the northbound ditch to avoid the collision and the driver’s side bumper and tire of the Ford hit the driver’s side rear axle of the tractor-trailer. Yates was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
The accident was reported at 12:50 p.m. and the death was the 412th so far this year on the state’s highways.
