A former Pine Bluff Police Officer has been charged with theft of property for allegedly selling older model police vehicles and pocketing the money.

Derrell Ray, 46, of White Hall was accused of the crime following an investigation by the Arkansas State Police which began after a request from Prosecuting Attorney S. Kyle Hunter in July 2021.

According to the probable cause affidavit, over a three-month period, May 2021 to July 2021, then Lt. Ray sold 30 vehicles that belonged to the City of Pine Bluff. Those vehicles were older model patrol units, crime scene units and undercover vehicles that had been taken out of service.

At that time, Ray was the fleet manager for the department and had been responsible for conducting city auctions in the past. The investigation revealed that Ray sold the vehicles to various people and provided some with titles that were signed by him and some that never received titles. The estimated vale of the loss was $20,850.

Bond for Ray was set at $5,000 and the case was assigned to 5th Division Circuit Judge Jodi Raines Dennis.
