A former election commissioner in Desha County has been reprimanded for failing to perform his duties during the 2022 primary elections.

According to the McGehee Dermott Times News, Kurt Sims received a letter of reprimand from the State Board of Elections, was fined, and was decertified as an election official for seven federal elections.

Sims resigned from the Desha County Election Commission following the primary election.

The newspaper reported that Sims was accused of failing to deliver absentee ballots to the county clerk, failing to provide public notice of electronic voting machine testing, failing to provide early voting information and failure to count and canvas absentee ballots at the stated time.
