
Former Arkansas Governor Jim Guy Tucker has died. He was 81.
Tucker became Governor in 1992 when Bill Clinton resigned to become President. He was then elected in 1994. He would only serve two years of his term when he was convicted of missapply funds for a bank loan amid Ken Starr’s Whitewater investigation. Tucker served in the Marine Corp Reserves but was discharged for medical reasons. He later worked as a freelance war correspondent in South Vietnam. He later attended the University of Arkansas Law School and Harvard Law. He later served two terms in the U.S. House before relinquishing his seat for a failed run at the Senate. Tucker won the Governorship in 1994 getting 59% of the vote to defeat Sheffield Nelson.
He is survived by his wife Betty, who he married in 1975.
