A one-vehicle accident in Cleveland County Sunday resulted in the death of a Fordyce woman.

According to a preliminary report, Rae Payne, 47, was southbound on U.S. 79 at Panther Creek when she lost control of the 2005 Honda Accord she was driving and the vehicle struck a guardrail, then left the roadway and struck a tree.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cleveland County Coroner.

The accident was reported at 12:30 a.m. and the death was the 233rd so far this year on the state’s highways.
