The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football team will conclude spring practice on Saturday, April 13 with the annual spring game at Simmons Bank Field at Noon.

It’s a big weekend of activities as Head Coach and former UAPB player Cedric Thomas is inviting all former players to next weekend’s event, which will kickoff off Friday, April 12 with a Golden Lion Football Alumni reception at 6 p.m. at Simmons Bank Field. Saturday, April 13 will feature a football alumni flag football game at 11 a.m., prior to the UAPB Football Spring Game at Noon at Simmons Bank Field.

“We want to establish that culture of having our former players return and be a part of what we’re doing,” Thomas said. “As a former player who played in Pumphrey Stadium (now the UAPB Soccer Complex), I want to send the invitation out to all the former players to come back to the fold and be a part of this special journey as we turn this program around. Our players that are here now need to see the guys who came before them, not just the former NFL players, but all the guys who played here and have gone on to have successful endeavors in life. I want all those guys to come back and fellowship with these players.”

Saturday’s football events are free and open to the public. There will be food truck vendors on site, and fans can pickup the 2019 football schedule. The full day of activities will conclude with UAPB Baseball hosting Southern at 2 p.m. at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.

“The community means everything to us,” Thomas said. “We participated in the Donuts with Dad (earlier in the spring) and it was great to see the kids excited about seeing our football players and having the dads ask about the upcoming season. Everyone is intrigued about this new Lions program and the new Lions coming into the fold. We want the community to come out and support the team and have a fun day with us.”
