There were nine structure fires reported in Pine Bluff during the month of July, according to the monthly report from the Fire and Emergency Services Department.

Of the nine, fire investigators classified four as arson and the cause of the remaining five was undetermined. Five of the fires were in Ward 1, one in Ward 2, two in Ward 3 and one in Ward 4.

By comparison, there were 14 structure fires in June with the cause of five of them undetermined, one was classified as accidental and the remaining eight listed as arson.

In addition to the structure fires, there were 13 vehicle fires reported in July and 19 brush/grass rubbish fires.  That compares to seven vehicle fires and 12 grass, brush rubbish fires in June.

Firefighters responded to 170 emergency medical calls, two more than in June. Those calls accounted for 44.85 percent of the total number of calls for July. Besides the emergency medical calls, there were 27 vehicle accidents with injuries that firefighters were dispatched to, three more than in June.

There were 32 fire alarms reported and firefighters responded to 12 false alarms.

For the month, a total of 379 calls were answered, 12 more than in June.
