A fire of unknown origin caused significant damage to an area of the Pines Mall early Thursday morning.
Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Chief Shauwn Howell told Deltaplex News that firefighters responded to the mall at about 1:30 a.m.
Oldies 101.3 morning show host Greg Horne told Howell that with the fire being in the area where the manager’s office was located, there would be a lot of suspicion on the cause and Howell responded this way.
Howell said at one point, every fire truck in the city was at the mall, and at 8 a.m., five trucks were still on the scene.
He went on to say that the fire actually broke through the roof which helped to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the mall.
