With the 4th of July holiday set for Monday, the sale of fireworks in Jefferson County and all over the country are booming.

On Friday, Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Chief Shauwn Howell was a guest on the Oldies 1013 morning show and was asked if there were laws governing the use of fireworks inside the city limits.

Howell went on to say that enforcing that ordinance is “challenging at best.”

Organized fireworks displays are planned at both Pine Bluff and White Hall Monday, beginning at about 9 p.m. and Howell said residents are encouraged to attend those events.

On another subject, he said that a lot of outdoor grilling and cooking will occur as people celibate the holiday and said injuries or damage to property are frequently a lot more serious than injuries resulting from the Improper use of fireworks.
