Several emergency response units are reporting that there is a pipeline rupture in Calhoun County.
Emergency responders are advising people in the west side of Hampton to shelter in place, while people on the east side of town are advised to evacuate to a high school east of Highway 167 due to the chemical leak.
Those in the vicinity are advised to leave windows closed and not use outside air.
The leaked chemical is believed to be anhydrous ammonia according to the sheriff’s office.
Additionally, the Hampton School District has announced they will not have school on Friday. More information for the district is shared below:
Out of an abundance of precaution regarding the events of the ruptured pipeline, Hampton School District will be taking a Snow Day on Friday, September 24, 2021. No students or staff should be on campus unless otherwise authorized. The football team will be traveling to Lafayette County tomorrow night providing the situation is resolved.
