Voters in Sheridan will be picking a new mayor in the November general election, something that they have not done since 1988.

According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, current Mayor Joe Wise will be retiring at the end of the year. Wise began work at Sheridan in 1971 as the city’s treasurer and was elected Mayor for the first time in 1988. He has never had an opponent in his 34 years in office.

The newspaper reported that three candidates ae seeking to replace Wise including his son Justin Wise. Also running are Sheridan Fire Chief Ben Hammond and local youth pastor Cain Nattin.

Also on the ballot in November will be four races for seats on the Sheridan School Board. Previously, all the school board seats were filled by voters from the entire district but now five seats on the board are being elected from zones of equal population while the two remaining positions remain ats at-large seats.
