Drew County Treasurer Charlie Searcy reported last week that the Sanitation account is close to breaking even for the first time in 11 years.

Quorum Court that the account had a negative balance of $7,378 while at this same time in 32023, the account had a negative balance of $140,00, which is a $133,000 swing.

Searcy also reported that County General had a negative balance of just over $258,000 compared to a negative balance of almost $548,000 in 2023.

On another subject, Brannon Hill reported that because of the closing of the labor and delivery departments in both Ashley and Bradley Counties, there has been a significant increase in the number of babies being delivered at the Baptist Health Center-Drew County.

He said the hospital is delivering 35 to 45 babies each month which is the second highest number in the Baptist system.
