Pine Bluff Downtown Development, Inc. will use funds from two grants for a shade structure over the picnic tables at Barraque Plaza at the corner of Barraque and Pine Streets, according to a Downtown Development newsletter.

Downtown Development recently received a $15,000 Downtown Revitalization Grant from the Arkansas Historic Program, a division of the Department of Arkansas Heritage.

This grant and a grant from the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation will be used for the Barraque Plaza structure, according to the newsletter.

The Downtown Revitalization grants were awarded to the Pine Bluff agency and 20 other Main Street Arkansas programs, which were selected to share $315,000.

“These grants are funded through the state Real Estate Transfer Tax for Building rehabilitations, parks, streetscape improvements and other design-related projects that will have major long-term impacts in the local Main Street area,” according to the newsletter.
