Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Danny Holcomb has announced his resignation from the Jefferson County Quorum Court effective immediately.

In a letter sent to County Judge Gerald Robinson and constituents of District 11 Holcomb cited ongoing health and safety and security concerns as a reason for his resignation.

At Thursday evening’s meeting Justice Alfred Carroll called for citizens to begin contacting pastors, children, grandchildren, and other friends of six other Justices, to include Holcomb.

It is unknown if any contact was made by citizens to others associated with Holcomb or if this played into his decision.

In the letter Holcomb stated:

“It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this letter today. I have always tried to serve this county to [the] best of my ability. To vote my convictions, always trying to put the best interests of the constituents that I represented first and foremost. However, due to recent events that have adversely affected my health and have caused me great concern about the safety and security of my family, I feel I can no longer continue in my capacity as JP of District 11 and serve on the Jefferson County Quorum Court. Please accept this letter as my notification that I am resigning my position effective immediately as JP of District 11 Jefferson County Quorum Court. I regret that it has come to this, but at this point I feel this is the best decision.”

The Jefferson County Quorum Court has been involved in an ongoing impasse for the month of January due to the lack of a budget being passed. The Quorum Court will meet Monday at 5:30 p.m. to attempt to pass a budget for 2025.
