For the second straight month, a meeting of the Jefferson County Quorum Court was halted before any business could be transacted.

County Judge Gerald Robinson adjourned the meeting and immediately left the building after an argument with Justice of the Peace Lloyd Franklin Jr., which began when Robinson said he was going to move on with the business on the agenda.

Justice of the Peace Ted Harden, who is the senior member of the Quorum Court explained what happened.

Robinson asked a sheriff’s deputy who was in the room to remove Franklin a number of times to no avail.

In addition to not adopting an ordinance establishing policies and procedures for the Quorum Court for the next two years, a number of appropriation ordinances that were carried over from February were also not adopted.

Those included a request from the Pine Bluff Jefferson County Library System for $55,000 which, in addition to $720,000 previously appropriated, will take care of library expenses this year.

Also a request from Jefferson County Assessor Gloria Tillman to reinstate a slot in her office, saying that without the additional person, it will have a negative effect on county finances.
