On Wednesday, the director of the Pine Bluff Convention Center talked about the news that financing has been arranged for the hotel that will be attached to the building he runs.

Joseph McCorvey appeared on Talk Back Live with Floyd Donald and said in the five years he has been here, acts like Frankie Beverly and Maze, as well as other performers, have had to stay in Little Rock because of the lack of hotel space.

That will change when the hotel, which will be a Courtyard by Marriott opens.

Now that the financing has been arranged, McCorvey was asked what the next steps will be.

A listener asked if the current Plaza Hotel will be torn down for the new hotel, or will the existing building be remodeled and McCorvey said this.

He said the Beechwood Pinnacle Group, which is based in Little Rock, will manage the property when it is opened.

McCorvey was also asked what benefits will the new hotel bring to the city.

To the contention by some that the 125 rooms the hotel will have are not enough, he said this.

After it begins, construction is expected to take 14 to 17 months.
