A Dewitt man was killed in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 165 near the Arkansas River Bridge Thursday.

A preliminary report identified the victim as Patravius R. Grayson, 29, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:16 p.m. by the Arkansas County Coroner Coper Essex.

State Police Sr. Cpl. Mitch Grant reported that Grayson was southbound in a 2016 Chevrolet Traverse that crossed the centerline and into the northbound traffic lane. At the same time, a 2022 Freightliner was northbound.

When the driver of the Freightliner saw the approaching car, he swerved his vehicle into the southbound lane to avoid a collision. Graydon then swerved back into the southbound lane and struck the Freightliner head-on.

The accident was reported at 5:20 p.m. and the death was the 471st reported on the state’s highways so far this year.
