Detective Kevin Collins remembered by his Mother, Dornetta Collins-Hobbs

Dornetta Collins Hobbs, the mother of Pine Bluff Police Detective Kevin Collins, remembered her son at a ceremony held Tuesday in front of the Pine Bluff Police Department in remembrance of her son. Collins was tragically killed in the line of duty on October 5, 2020 in a gun fight. Two other officers were also wounded in the incident.

Additionally, Mayor Shirley Washington declared October 5th as Detective Kevin Collins Remembrance Day in the same ceremony, while also announcing the new training facility for the Pine Bluff Police Department will be named in honor of Detective Kevin Collins.

Collins-Hobbs announced a winter coat drive in honor of her son which will help provide needed items for children of need in Pine Bluff. The drive will begin on October 20, 2021 from 9 am-6 pm at New Life Church in Jefferson Square.

Additionally, she announced the Kevin Collins Scholarship for a Criminal Justice student at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has reached endowed status. The scholarship will require any recipient to commit to a certain term of service inside of Jefferson County.
