A Dermott woman has been charged with several felonies in connection with the death of her disabled son.

According to the McGehee Dermott Times-News, Betty Adams, 39, is charged with endangering the welfare of a minor in the first-degree, abuse of a corpse, and endangering the welfare of a minor in the second-degree.

The body of her son, Justin Adams, was found inside a house on July 19.

The newspaper reported that the charges followed an investigation by the Arkansas State Police which came after Dermott Police were called to the house by a family member and discovered the body of Justin Adams covered up and lying in a hospital bed.

The State Police report described the body as “skeletonized” and the body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine a cause and manner of death.

The newspaper reported that the boy suffered from cerebral palsy and required a feeding tube.

The investigation is on-going, the newspaper reported.
