The Delta Network Food Bank and Tyson Foods have scheduled a second truckload distribution of chicken on Saturday, April 11, 2020 from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center for citizens in Pine Bluff and Jefferson county.
A registration card must be filled out by a family representative prior to or during the distribution.
In order to prevent traffic congestion, families will be served base on the alphabet of the family last name. If multiple families are riding together, distribution will be made according to the drivers last name.
A-H distribution is from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
I-Q distribution if from 11:31 a.m. – 1 p.m.
R-Z distribution is from 1:01 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
This hunger relief effort comes at a time when we are experiencing a national pandemic due to the COVID-19 crisis. Citizens are asked to remain in their vehicles during the distribution. Food will be distributed to your vehicle. After you receive your distribution, exit the parking lot, and follow directions provided by police officers as they direct traffic.
This distribution comes after an earlier distribution provided food that was beyond the “best if used by” date. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, dates used in food labeling of meats is intended as guidelines to indicate when the period of peak freshness ends but are not intended to be indicators of when a food item, if properly handled, is no longer safe to eat. The USDA said there is no uniform requirement for date labeling, but some common meanings are:
Best if Used By/Before: date indicated when a product will have the best flavor or quality. It is not a purchase of safety date.
Sell By: date tells the store how long to display the product for sale or inventory management. It is not a safety date.
Use By: date is the last date recommended for the use of a product at its peak quality.
Freeze By: date indicates when a product should be frozen to maintain peak quality. It is not a safety date.
All products distributed in this distribution are within its “best if used by, used by” dates.
