Pine Bluff native Cassandra Dean has announced her candidacy for the Pine Bluff City Council in the Fourth Ward. See her announcement below:
My name is Cassandra Dean, and I am a proud native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. After graduating from Watson Chapel High School in 2003, I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Sciences, Human Development, and Family Studies from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. I am a lifelong member of Saint Peter’s Rock Baptist Church, a 2006 member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and a member of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Alumni Association.
The majority of my work experience has been as a Child Protective Service Investigator. Here, I was responsible for reviewing child death investigations, severe injuries to children, and investigating the disproportionate number of cases about African American children. My family and I currently operate a business, Country Chic Chocolate Company, in downtown Pine Bluff.
While these experiences have shaped my identity, my biggest accomplishment is being a mother. I have a heart for children and securing a future for my daughter Addyison-Elaine is what drives me every day.
Like you, I want the best for our children, which means ensuring they have access to opportunities. When I drive the 4th Ward, I see untapped potential from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Townsend Park, Martin Luther King Park, Hestand Stadium, and commercial real estate along US Highway 79. These economic assets should be prominent and prosperous centers for the 4th Ward and its people. In addition, the housing stock is not representative of the character and quality of housing that our people and, more specifically, our children deserve.
There is so much more that we can do!
Yes, it will be a fight to turn the tide of decline in the 4th Ward, but we can do it together. And as a Lupus survivor and its side effects, I am a sure fighter. Therefore, I am officially announcing my candidacy for 4th Ward Councilmember of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. I am a very transparent person and strive to treat all people with the same respect. I solicit your prayers and support as I campaign for better because WE CAN DO BETTER!
