Alexander talks new Convention Center and Hotel Board

The Pine Bluff City Council on Monday approved legislation that creates a Convention Center and Hotel Public Facilities Board whose goal is to improve or rebuild the hotel attached to the convention center as a way to improve business at the center and raise revenue for the city.

Joni Alexander was one of the seven council members who voted to approve the ordinance and on Tuesday, she talked about it on the Oldies 1013 morning show.

Council member Steven Mays Sr., was the only one who voted no.

Asked who would be on the board, Alexander said she did not know yet because the legislation to create I had just been approved the night before. Mayor (Shirley) Washington will make recommendations and during the council meeting Monday, ask members to make their own recommendations.

Alexander said she hoped board members who include people with backgrounds in hospitality, economic development, and the like.
