At its last meeting, the Pine Bluff City Council read for the first time a proposed ordinance that would allow for the installation of speed humps to slow down speeding traffic in residential areas.

Councilmember Joni Alexander sponsored the legislation and on Thursday was asked why by Deltaplex News.

Alexander said the speed humps would be temporary and if they solved the speeding problem in a particular neighborhood, they could be taken up.

She also talked about the costs associated with speed humps.

Asked if there was any opposition from other members of the council, Alexander said no.

“They all get calls about people speeding in residential neighborhoods,” she said.

The proposed ordinance will be read twice more, once at each of the two meetings in June and if approved, would take effect 31 days later.
