The Pine Bluff City Council passed a resolution to name the Pine Bluff Aquatic Center after former Mayor Carl Redus, Jr. at Monday night’s meeting. All council members voted for the measure, with the exception of Alderman Win Trafford who decided to abstain from the vote.

Alderman Ivan Whitfield said that Redus showed that you can leave the city then come back to do great things.

Whitfield also stated that Redus deserves to have the Aquatics Center named after him.

The resolution will require the City of Pine Bluff to pay for updated signage and any other payments required by the name change.

In other business the council also adopted the 2021 Municipal Budget, passed a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a contract with Dunn Right Janitorial Services for professional cleaning of City Hall, and a resolution declaring certain houses, buildings, and/or structures as nuisances and ordering their abatement.

The council also commended Bob Abbot for his service to the community and for receipt of the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Additionally, the council congratulated Jimmy “Cat” Cunningham for his receipt of the 2020 John H. Johnson Business and Entrepreneur Award, and to commend him for service to the community and region, as well as congratulating George Makris, Ryan Watley, and Sissy Jones for being recognized by Arkansas Business Magazine as members of the 250 Most Influential Leaders of 2020, and commending them for their service to the community.
