With Pine Bluff Police Chief Kelvin Sergeant due to retire at the end of the day Wednesday, the question of where the city and the department go from here is up in the air.

Last week, Mayor Shirley Washington asked the council to increase the salary of the chief to $115,000 so she could hire her first choice, Robert Jones. That request has so far been rejected and a special council meeting to vote on the issue Monday was canceled.

On Tuesday, Council members Ivan Whitfield and Joni Alexander appeared on Talkback Live and were asked by Floyd Donald what does the city do now.

Whitfield responded first, then Alexander.

After saying that she and the other council members had not been lobbied by Whitfield, Alexander continued.
