The Pine Bluff City Council’s Administration Committee on Tuesday recommended that a new position be created In both the Economic and Community Development Department and the Street Department.

Street Department Director Tom Bennett asked  for the addition of a “survey research assistant” who said the person hired will, among other things, be responsible for the GIS (Global Information System), specifically putting information on the department server. Also, the person hired will eventually replace the current research assistant, which Bennett said had been with the department since 1982.

Salary for the position is currently in the street department budget.

In the Economic and Community Development Department, the committee recommended approval to add a Public Works Director, a position which Department Director Larry Matthews, said this position was previously discussed by the committee during restructuring but he neglected to include it when a vote on that restructuring was taken.

Committee members Glen Brown Sr., Bruce Lockett and Lloyd Holcomb Jr., voted to send both proposals to the full council when it meets next week.
