A proposed ordinance calling on city boards and commissions to submit minutes of their meetings and an annual report of their goals and accomplishments won approval from the City Council’s Administration Committee Tuesday afternoon.

Committee Chairman Lloyd Holcomb and Council Member Glen Brown Sr., voted to recommend that the ordinance, sponsored by Council Member Joni Alexander be approved when the council meets later this month.

Alexander explained to the committee what the proposed ordinance is all about.

Mayor Shirley Washington expressed concern about asking for monthly reports from the boards and commissions, suggesting a quarterly report. Alexander said only the meeting minutes would be required monthly while a report would be an annual event.

City Clerk Janice Roberts said her office would take care of notifying the chairman of the boards and commissions of the requirements of the ordinance if it is adopted, and Mayor Washington said:

Holcomb asked to co-sponsor the legislation and Alexander agreed.
