The City Council at Star City voted last week to relocate the activation system for the storm warning sirens from the former Lincoln County jail to the Star City Police Department.

According to the Lincoln Ledger newspaper, the system requires a designated phone number to activate, and the police department was suggested because it is in the city limits and operates on a 24-hour basis.

Previously, the system was located in the dispatch room of the county jail but the old jail has been closed and a new jail opened next to the county road department on Highway 11.

Once the system is back in operation, the newspaper reported that it will be tested once a week on Wednesday in a test that runs one minute. In the event of inclement weather on Wednesday, the test will be moved to Thursday. Severe weather alerts will be for the City of Star City only.
